SOUTH Ayrshire managed to escape the worst of the ‘Beast from the East’ last week.
With the yellow and amber weather warnings hitting the west of Scotland from Wednesday, February 28 until Friday, March 2, the county saw school closures and travel disruption, with trains running from Troon, Prestwick, Girvan and Ayr being cancelled or postponed.
It is also understood that a number of stores reported limited supplies of fresh produce, including bread and milk as well as a shortage in petrol in Ayr.
The National Grid also issued a “gas deficit warning” amid growing fears that supplies could run empty, with the power operator saying the warning was issued in response to a series of “significant supply losses resulting in a forecast end-of-day supply deficit”.
But despite mountains of snow being found throughout the neighbouring North and East Ayrshire, South Ayrshire managed to avoid the worst of the weather, and readers took to social media to show us their photographs from Prestwick, Troon and afar to illustrate how affected they were.
