A MARR College student has won the logo design competition for Dementia Friendly Troon & Villages (DFT&V).

Jodi Hainey was awarded first prize for creating a logo that will be used on all of the groups marketing and publicity, including their banners.

She was presented art materials on Monday, February 19 by Jim Baird, secretary of the group and Locality Manager for Alzheimer Scotland.

He said: “We have used Jodi’s logo already on the banners displayed at the recent Participatory Budgeting event at which we secured £5000 for training - her design attracted very positive comments and she should be very proud of what she has done.”

Dr Philippa Whitford MP had initially proposed the idea for DFT&V to engage with school pupils, which received with a “fantastic response”.

She added: “I’d like to congratulate Jodi Hainey on her winning design, which symbolises the support Dementia Friendly Troon and Villages hopes to provide to those with dementia and their carers. It is a strong logo which I am sure will quickly become identifiable with the organisation as it develops.

“I would like to thank all the pupils who took part - there were so many good designs that we added a second and a third prize for Brogan and Emily.

“One of the aims of DFT&V is to increase awareness of the condition and the problems those who have it can face when out and about and taking this project into schools is a great start to achieving this.

"I hope that this logo will remind all of us to be a little bit more patient and supporting to those living with dementia, so they and their carers feel welcome in our community.”
