A NETWORK of volunteers will be teaming up to regularly collect litter from Prestwick Beach.

Prestwick North Community Council (PNCC) and South Ayrshire Council have agreed to start a network of volunteer litter picking in the coming weeks.

Julie Twaddell, from Friends of Prestwick Seafront, explained: “We can now say that PNCC and South Ayrshire Council will be working together to start a network of volunteer litter picking along Prestwick Beach.

“Now is the right time to pitch in people to help collect litter off the beach. We are going to liaise with the rotaries who also do litter picking throughout the year.

“With bins along the beach, it will make it easy for people to do litter picking at any time, when out walking or walking their dog.

“We want more people to feel empowered so anyone can get involved.

“People are already doing this and with a little bit of action, it will help the community.”

Mike Newall, Head of Neighbourhood Services for South Ayrshire Council, added: “The council is always happy to work with groups and individuals who are interested in reducing the amount of litter in South Ayrshire.

“We can provide equipment and also arrange for the collection of any waste.

“If you would like to find out more about how you or your group could be supported contact South Ayrshire Council on 0300 123 0900.”
