A NEW super school in Maybole and North Carrick has been proposed to “transform education” within the area.

And a consultation is now underway for residents to have their say on the proposals, which if approved, will lead to the build of a new Maybole Community Campus in the grounds of Carrick Academy.

The £42m project would have the capacity for an estimated 1400 pupils at a new Carrick Academy, an amalgamated Cairn Primary and Gardenrose Primary, a relocation of St Cuthbert’s Primary, as well as associated early years provision, two all-weather pitches and shared community facilities.

Cllr William Grant, said: “While the standard of education in Maybole is high, the existing schools are badly in need of significant investment.

"By creating a brand-new community campus, we’ll create a network of schools on a par with similar projects that have been completed or are underway across South Ayrshire, and which are already helping to transform the way people are taught.

"I’d urge anyone with an interest in these proposals to make their comments known through the consultation process, as their views will be considered ahead of a final decision being made later this year.”

A public consultation will be held until Friday, April 20, where people will be able to have their say on the proposals and the outcome will be considered by councillors this summer for a final decision and public meetings have been arranged at Cairn Primary School: Tuesday, March 20 at 7pm, Gardenrose Primary School: Wednesday, March 21 at 7pm and St Cuthbert’s Primary School: Thursday, March 22 at 7pm for people discuss the proposal in detail.
