A RECORD number of locals came along to vote for their favourite projects at the Troon Locality Decides event.

More than 600 people turned up to take part in the latest decision day on Saturday, February 10 which was up 44 per cent from the previous event in September last year.

Among the projects were Marr College who received £1000 to go towards creating a radio station that will be broadcast throughout the school and wider community, Live@Troon were given £3000 to help cover the cost of running the Festival Parade 2018, South Ayrshire Path Initiative were awarded £3000 to promote and encourage active travel and Loans Social Hub were also given £1000 to develop a ‘Men’s Shed’ Community Garden Group and develop garden workshop activates for the village.

A total of £54,734 was awarded to 31 community groups.

Leader of South Ayrshire Council, Douglas Campbell, said: “Hundreds of people came out to support community groups that are all looking to make a difference to peoples’ lives.

“I’d like to wish all of the participating groups the best of luck as they continue to deliver positive projects for the benefit for the wider community.”
