SLUGS have made their way into a Troon property after months of demanding action over a disused shop.

Residents of the flats in the C listed building on Portland Street, attended last weeks Troon Community Council (TCC) meeting to update them on the situation that was brought forward to members in October.

Since then, an “ineffective” repair to the burst pipe has shown no further improvement.

Kate McGuiness described the problems that are still affecting her and her neighbour’s “living standards”.

She said: “We have been trying since the beginning of March to have improvement done to the building. Since July, nothing has happened apart from the owner washing the windows of the shop and the general feeling is that by washing the windows, the owner is trying to make an improvement.

"When the window was cleaned, a power tool was seen in the shop and seeing that power tool is apparently an indication that something was happening.

"There is still a burst pipe within and whenever it rains, water pours into the property. Civil engineers have been out with Environmental Health and they have said, at the moment, that the structure of the building is sound but if the water continues to pour in, obviously that will change.

“Because this water has been running for so long, the ceiling that is immediately below my neighbour’s bedroom is down – there is a great big hole – and with this, obviously there is dampness and slugs like it - some how they are finding their way into the bedroom of 84B.

“I cannot imagine anyone who would like to get up in the middle of the night and find a slug in their slipper.

“This is affecting our living standards and we just want someone to take us a bit further forward and have something done.”
