COMMUNITY projects received award grants at the recent Prestwick Decision Day.

The 14 groups from Healthfield, Newton North, and Prestwick were voted by the local residents, which saw 240 people turned up to show their support at Heathfield Primary.

Up to £20,000 was available and among the successful projects there was Ayrshire Cancer Support who received £2860, and they will use the funding to support the costs of their transport service which takes local people from their homes to hospitals for treatment, or to their Ayr centre for emotional support.

Dementia Friendly Prestwick were allocated £2876 to help support the running costs of their Community Pop Up Cinema and Glenburn Primary Parent Council were given £1000 to develop an Eco Garden to become a “Community Garden” for use by everyone in the area. Funding will be used to revamp and upgrade the garden; including altering the layout to ensure it is accessible for all ages.

Others groups that received grants from the Decision Day, include: Kyle Stroke Group, Spotty Zebras, South Ayrshire Dementia Support (SADSA), South Ayrshire Escape from Homelessness (SeAscape), CLD Prestwick and Prestwick Sailing Club.

Cllr Douglas Campbell, said: “The Prestwick event attracted a big crowd on the day, with people keen to back projects that are making a real difference to their communities.

"By getting directly involved, meeting like-minded people, and voting for their favourite projects people are building stronger networks working for the common good.

“I’d like to thank everyone who took part, all those who turned out on the day, and wish every project the best of luck.”
