PLANS for a new Troon Parkrun have been set in motion.
As a result of funding being received from Troon Open Legacy fund earlier this year, the Troon Parkrun was given the go ahead, to put it on a par with close by Parkruns in Ayr and Girvan.
Starting on Saturday, December 2, the weekly 5K course will take place along the South Beach Esplanade which is run entirely on permanent paths – some sections of the course may lead into mud, leaves and puddles after rain – marshals may also be at key sections of the route or signs will be put in place.
It is a flat course starting at the Kiosk heading north along the Esplanade to the end turning to go south and then turning back again to finish near the Kiosk.
There will be a ‘Post Run Coffee’ where every week, participants will be able to get a coffee from Blueberry/Betsy’s in the town.
Speaking at a Troon Community Council meeting at the beginning of this year, resident Ahmed Khan, who had recently moved to the area, hoped to encourage people to take part in the Parkrun.
He said: “The Parkrun is a not-for-profit event and is not just for people in Lycra, anyone can take part.
“The youngest participants are seven to eight and the oldest 85.”
The Parkrun is free and those taking part will have to register to receive a barcode and the event is entirely organised by volunteers so if anyone would like to help, you can email troonhelpers@parkrun.com
