RECENTLY a group of South Ayrshire residents with an interest in walking and cycling formed a voluntary group called South Ayrshire Paths Initiative.

This group has been set up to make sure everyone has access to our amazing communities and landscapes via active travel routes and paths.

The group has decided to form a steering group dedicated to Troon and the surrounding area called “Troon the Cycle Friendly Toon” who will began a review of the walking and cycling infrastructure in Troon.

This review includes asking the public about what they want within the Troon Area and could include new and enhanced walking and cycling routes.

Possibly connecting up local neighbouring communities better and discussing ideas on making it safer and easier to travel to our schools, shops and local facilities.

They have support from our Local MP Philippa Whitford, local Troon Councillors and, Community Council who are interested in promoting active-travel for all within the Troon area and will hopefully support us is in moving the vision forward.

They are seeking to enlist the support of organisations and members of the public to contribute their ideas based on their own knowledge of the locality.

Their hope is that, together with South Ayrshire Council, Ayrshire Roads Alliance and other partners, we can develop a strategy, a logically prioritised programme, feasibility studies and the design and construction of much-needed, traffic-free infrastructure and pathways.
