PLANNING permission to build a two-storey garage in Loans has been accepted, with conditions, despite recommendations to reject the proposal.

The proposed development site relates to an extended two-storey semi-detached house located in Main Street, Loans.

Planning permission has previously been granted to build a garage at the site and the foundations for this have been laid.

The current application proposes an increase in the proposed garage’s wall head height by one metre, taking the overall height to approximately 7.5 metres and the formation of three dormer windows within its roof space.

It was recommended that this application was refused due to it being considered as “inappropriate and unsympathetic to the existing residential area, to the detriment of the amenity of the locality.”

Cllr Peter Convery, said: “I have to say, I’m not dying in a ditch over this.”

Cllr Craig MacKay, added: “If we are to approve this, I would like a condition that no businesses would work from the development as it does seem very big for just a garage.”

Despite the recommended refusal and 11 submitted refusals, the Regulatory Panel granted the permission for this application, with certain conditions, that the garage will be used solely for domestic purposes and no commercial activities.
