TROON’S Yeti travelled and completed this year’s screwball rally for Glasgow’s Taxi Outing.

Gordon Burnett and his five teammates set off on their five-day European charity banger trip on Thursday, September 21.

The rally entails participants to buy a £750 or less vehicle and dress it up in any chosen theme – Gordon and his team, Erica Griave, Tom Moffat, Alison Bentley, James Bafnall and Hannah McLeod, had two cars, dressed as a police car and a fire engine.

Some 70 cars took part in the event, driving from Dover, through to France, Italy, Lichtenstein and Luxembourg, and although a few didn’t survive, Gordons cars were fine despite a few issues.

Gordon, said: “One of the cars brakes were cooked coming down the Stelvio Pass between Italy and Switzerland, and the V70 has an electrical fault that killed the instruments and indicators at random – that was a scary moment.

“It is always a laugh taking part in the rally and it was very enjoyable.

“There were prizes for the best dressed.

“Cars were dressed up as Batman and Cat Woman, one was dressed as the pig from Toy Story and there was one bus, from The Italian Job, complete with a Mini in the back.

“Lichtenstein was amazing – I knew it was a tiny country but you could see right across Switzerland when we were up the side of the mountain.

“That was the highlight and going up the side of that mountain was gorgeous.

“We have raised between £400-£1000 so far and collectively, the event had raised £141,000 before the rally had even started which will go to lots of different charities and ours will be going to the Glasgow Taxis.”

They team were sponsored by AG Peters Garage, CCL Logistics and ScottPrint.
