PRESTWICK Airport has succumbed to the cancellation of flights made by Ryanair.

Last week, Scotland’s only Ryanair hub, told the Ayr Advertiser Series they could confirm that “all Glasgow Prestwick Airport Ryanair flights are still on schedule.”

However, on Wednesday, September 27, the airline announced further disruptions, with an extra 18,000 flights cancelled for the winter season, which will affect 400,000 customers.

More than 800 return journeys between Scotland and London are expected to be among the affected flights that will hit Christmas.

Flights flying from Prestwick Airport that have been cancelled between November 1 and March 24, 2018, include; flight number 651 Prestwick to Faro and flight 652 Faro to Prestwick, that were meant to be flying in these months on Saturdays.

Many people wrote on social media that they have had flights cancelled and now have to change their departing flight.

One said: “Prestwick to Faro has been cancelled in November – I have had to change to Edinburgh.”

Another user added: “I received notice of cancellation of our Ryanair Prestwick departure in December.”

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) have now stated enforcement action against Ryanair for “persistently misleading passengers”.

Andrew Haines, chief executive for the CAA, said he was “furious” with the airline because it isn’t telling its passengers that they are entitled to be re-routed by other airlines.

Mr Haines told BBC Radio 4: “They are not making it clear to people of their entitlement. If they follow through on what they are saying then they would be breaking the law.”

In a brief statement, a spokesman for Ryanair, said: “We will be meeting with the CAA and will comply fully with whatever requirements they ask us to.”
