BOSSES at Scotrail imposed a booze ban on trains between Glasgow and Troon last week.

Normally, alcohol is forbidden after 9pm on all trains and for major events, but would-be teeny tipplers will have to behave themselves from now on.

The ban, between 10am and 2pm and on return trains from 5pm to 9pm, comes after numerous complaints to the rail company from furious passengers.

A ScotRail Alliance spokesman said: “We do not tolerate antisocial behaviour of any kind on our train services as the safety of our customers and staff is our first priority.

“We will assist British Transport Police (BTP) and Police Scotland in any way we can as they tackle antisocial behaviour on trains and around stations.”

Another invasion, the second within a week, was also met with a police cordon at Troon Station, with alcohol confiscated before the youngsters could get their bottles open.

South Ayrshire Police also deployed extra officers to the beach, backed by dog handlers and colleagues on horseback.

BTP chief inspector David Gray said: “Young people have travelled to Troon to make the most of the hot weather during their summer holidays.

“Sadly, this led to some serious antisocial behaviour on the trains travelling to and from the town.

“To prevent this kind of behaviour, BTP are part of the Safer Shores plan which involves our officers, the local authority, Police Scotland and Scotrail.

“We are committed to preventing any kind of antisocial behaviour which has a detrimental impact on everyone else using the railways.”
