THE Ayrshire Arts and Crafts Fair, held in Troon, has been saved after fears it could have been cancelled.

The fair has been running for almost 12 years in Troon Concert Hall on the first Saturday of the month but there were concerns they would not be allocated the same time slot in 2018.

Organisers felt this would make it difficult to continue and operate as a monthly event.

They said that every month sees up to 1500 visitors in the town thanks to the fair with more than 80 per cent of visitors come from out with Troon to visit the event.

There are no tea room so that the local cafes benefit from increased business.

David Burns, Head of Housing and Facilities, said: “Our booking system works on a first come, first served basis and there were a couple of clashes as a result.

"We are always keen to try to find solutions where there are prior bookings, so we sat down with the organisers and they now have the dates they wanted for the Craft Fair in 2018."

Alex Hughes, who organises the event, confirmed that the petition has closed as the situation has been resolved.
