POLICE have confirmed that ten people were arrested following scenes of mayhem at Troon beach yesterday.

Just one of the people arrested was from Ayrshire.

The updates follows scenes of drunken behaviour in the town and at Troon train station, after thousands travelled to the beach in response to a call-out on social media.

Ten people are believed to have been taken to Crosshouse Hospital by ambulance, although none of the injuries were believed to be serious.

Many others were treated at the scene.

Some of the cases were related to dehydration and others to injuries from broken glass, after bottles were thrown at police.

One is also thought to have been thrown at mounted police, striking a horse.

John Scott MSP, who was at the scene and spoke to members of the police force and ambulance crews, told the Advertiser Series today (Wednesday): "I witnessed some of these scenes of anti-social behaviour and I can only commend the police who worked hard in the most difficult of circumstances to maintain law and order, and also the ambulance service who attended to the injured."

The bother is thought to have gone into the evening, as a further wave of youths arrived at Troon station.

Groups of young girls, some of them partially dressed, were observed lying in the street near the station, leading to fears for their safety.

Now there are calls for action to be taken to stop the regular invasions into Troon.

John Scott said: "I have discussed this whole incident with senior police officers with a view to trying to stop these gatherings, which tarnish the reputation of our local towns

"Those who created these disturbances were on the whole from outwith the boundaries of Ayrshire."
