A TROON tradesman has worked his way to become a regional finalist in Britain’s Top Tradesperson 2017.

Builder Craig Morton is now one step closer to winning the title of Screwfix’s competition after seeing off his rivals from tradesmen and women from across Scotland.

The 47-year-old will have to impress the judges at the regional final on Thursday, June 22.

Then eight of the regional finalists from across the UK will be selected to attend the national final to be in with a chance of winning the national title and recognition, along with a brand new Toyota PROACE or Hilux.

Craig, who trades under the name MOR Construction, thinks his experience, dedication to his customers and passion to create dream homes for local residents will help him to stand out from the crowd.

He comments that one of the main challenges he faced was being diagnosed with cancer but despite this, he kept on working to make sure he completed work that he had already started.

He said: “I have been in the trade for 20 years and even though I’m not one to blow my own trumpet, I felt the time was right to put myself forward for this competition.

“I think it is a real responsibility being a tradesman, taking people’s hard earned money and improving their homes to help them to live a better lifestyle.

“I like to think that we offer a real experience to people and I must be doing something right as my diary is full well into 2018.

“It’s a real honour to be heading to the regional final of Britain’s Top Tradesperson.”

Graham Smith, Screwfix’s marketing director, said: “We have been inundated with entries this year and as always, the standard is outstanding.

“This award is only given to those who demonstrate excellence in their business and dedication to the job. Being selected as a regional finalist highlights the great work that Craig is doing.

“Along with our other finalists, he has demonstrated a passion for the trade, a willingness to go the extra mile and to always leave customers satisfied.

“It certainly will not be easy to pick this year’s regional winner who will go on to compete at the national final at Wembley.”

Craig will take part in the Scotland heat at the Glasgow Possilpark Screwfix store this week, taking part in a number of tasks to find out if he has got what it takes to head to the national final of Britain’s Top Tradesperson in July.
