SOUTHCRIAG Primary Schools' transformation was revealed at a summer fun day following a series of improvement works.

South Ayrshire Council showcased the new look, which now has a new entrance, reception area, staffroom and new office accommodation as well as a functional new corridor which links the two main teaching buildings.

Costing around £700,000, the revamp was centre stage as 150 children and young people took part in a summer fun day along with their families.

Jane Gordon, Southcraig School's Head Teacher, said: “We are all really happy with the improvements and there are no more outside trips when moving around the school.

"Our new corridor is bright and welcoming and the new staffroom allows everyone to come together which was not possible before.

“The Summer Fun Day was a great success with very positive feedback.

It’s a lovely way to give something back to our families for all their support over the year and was a good opportunity to let them see all the amazing changes at the school for themselves.”

Councillor William Grant, portfolio holder for lifelong learning for South Ayrshire Council, added: “It was great to see so many people having fun and enjoying all the activities — a good time was had by all.

"This was a celebration, not only of the new look school but for the wider community too.

“The changes to the school have already made a big difference, not only can children and staff now walk in comfort between the two main buildings, there is now one reception instead of two so it’s more welcoming and less confusing at the same time.

“Southcraig School now has a single identity and the result is that children, young people and the staff are able to mix more easily which builds cohesion, something most other schools take for granted.”
