THE GLASGOW Taxi Outing's countdown is well and truly on for it's 72nd annual children's trip to Troon.

With less that two days to go, the famous Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund will see taxis and drivers in fancy dress, taking hundreds of children to Troon for a special day at the seaside, on Wednesday, June 21.

Each year, more than 100 drivers give up their day and take more than 300 school children who require additional support for learning, as well as their parents and carers, to Ayrshire coast for an unforgettable day.

The event begins at the traditional starting point of Kelvin Way, before the taxis weave through Glasgow’s city centre and south side then on to Ayrshire.

WinterStorm Festival will be sponsoring both events and providing all children with a stick of Troon Rock.

They will be set up on the grass promenade on the day next to Radio Clyde, waiting for the children to arrive.

Jim Buchanan, chairman for Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund, said: “It’s brilliant to launch the 72nd Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund trip to Troon and it’s now just a matter of counting down the days.

"It’s all for the children and the excitement on their faces on the day is priceless, however the great thing about the trip is how much it is also loved by drivers, our volunteers and everyone else who makes it happen.

"Special thanks to all the sponsors who support us too – we couldn’t do it without you.”

Supporters of this year’s adventure include, Glasgow Taxis Ltd and Celtic FC Foundation, as well as new sponsors Watermans and Stewart Milne Homes and Butchershop Bar and Grill joined the venture in 2016.

Speaking on behalf of the Glasgow Taxis Ltd executive committee, Chairman Stephen Flynn, added: “We’re delighted to once again support this year’s trip to Troon and hope today’s launch can help encourage even more people to come out and cheer the children next Wednesday.”
