AN APPLICATION for alterations to a listed building in Troon has been permitted.

The proposal, submitted by LMA Architects, will see Troon’s Municipal Buildings at South Beach, receive the replacement of external double doors and screens, the fitting of automatic opening systems, two to external doors and four to internal doors.

It has also been accepted for the applicant to add internal alterations to the building and add in disabled toilets.

The plans for the Town and Concert Hall were examined by Historic Environment Scotland due to the site being a listed building and they expressed no objection nor comment on the proposal.

The site is in the category of a “B” listed building of architectural and historical interest as it is of neo Georgian design which was constructed in 1932.

In 1973, the Walker Hall was added as an extension to the Town and Concert Hall.

South Ayrshire Council’s Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) on Historic Environment states that the council is presumed to be in favour of protecting listed buildings and the setting within the area.

Proposals affecting a listed building are expected to be of a quality corresponding with that of the original building to ensure the character of the building is not impacted.

However, it has been considered that the proposed alterations to the building would not have a negative impact on its character.

It is stated that the applicant must ensure that the development is carried out in accordance with the approved plans unless otherwise granted.
