TWO of Scotland's well known crime writers wowed audiences at a fundraising lunch in Troon last week.

Raising money for the charity, Hansel, Alex Gray and Lin Anderson read extracts from their latest novels, 'Still Dark' and 'None But the Dead' at Lochgreen Hotel in Troon on Friday, June 9.

The authors both shared the secrets of writing best selling novels with an audience of local book lovers.

Both Alex and Lin, who are the founders of the internationally acclaimed Bloody Scotland Festival, took part in a question and answer session and signed books for the guests.

Sheila McLean, Hansel's fundraising manager, said: “This was the first time we have ever organised a book reading and the response from the audience was absolutely fantastic, we will definitely be doing more events like this.

"Both Alex and Lin were fascinating and the audience were spellbound throughout.

“I would like to thank them for giving up their time for free for the charity, Lochgreen for the first class service and excellent food and of course all the people who came along and supported the event.”

She added: "I am delighted to be supporting this worthwhile cause as well as sharing stories about crime writing with keen readers."

Alex Gray's 'Still Dark' is the latest DSI William Lorimer novel and sees the popular detective on the trail of the man who eluded police capture during his last investigation, the Quiet Release case involving the euthanasia of vulnerable patients.

Lin Anderson is best known as the creator of the forensic scientist Rhona MacLeod series of crime thrillers and her novel, 'Paths of the Dead', was shortlisted for the 2015 Scottish Crime Book of the Year.
