A MAN who attacked a woman, just one week after they had met, has been put behind bars.

Kyle Armstrong, of Donald Crescent, Troon, seized the woman by her neck with both hands as well as by her hair in April this year.
The 23-year-old appeared from custody before Sheriff John Montgomery at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

Speaking on his behalf, defence solicitor, Mandy Stewart said: “Mr Armstrong is a 23-year-old, who as you know, has a number of previous convictions.

“He has been remanded for this and has taken the matter very seriously. Mr Armstrong had been taking alcohol on the evening in question and has limited recollection of the events but he does accept full responsibility for this. The report says he would benefit from a community based disposal as he is of a young age.

“Restriction of liberty is also an option and I would ask your Lordship to consider imposing that.”

Sheriff Montgomery interrupted: “Having previously been made subject to a community payback order, your client breached it.”

Ms Steward responded: “My client has had problems with mental health, and he had been struggling at that time. He does have a psychiatrist who has been helping him control this and discusses his problems with them.”
Addressing the dock, Sheriff Montgomery said: “You have pleaded guilty for assaulting a young lady, whom you had only met for the first time, a week earlier.

“You placed your hand around her throat, struggled with her and seized her by the hair.

“I am concerned about your behaviour given your record and I see no alternative to custody.”

Armstrong has been sentenced to eight months in prison.
