AN AYR man showed up at a woman’s house in the middle of the night to shout through the letterbox before breaking the door down.

Tony McLean, of Sannox View, turned up at the property in Ayr, in March this year and threatened to kick the door down, before doing so, shouted swore, refused to leave and forced his way inside.

The 37-year-old appeared before Sheriff Carole Cunninghame at Ayr Sherriff Court last week.

The court heard how the complainer was in her bed fast asleep but was woken up when she heard shouting at the front door.

Depute fiscal Jennifer Thompson, said: “She made her way down stairs where McLean was shouting through the letterbox.

“He was shouting ‘open the f****ing door, I am going to kick it in’. She asked him to go away but he began kicking the door. She was frightened.

“She went to contact the police and on doing so McLean entered the property.

“He said ‘I am sorry for doing that’, then left. The other witness who was in the house was woken up.

“She heard the woman shout ‘Tony I am in my bed, go away’.

“The second witness could hear the accused shouting but could not make out what he was saying.”

The door was taken off its hinges with the damage costing £470.
Speaking on his behalf, defence solicitor, John Gallagher said: “You have a report before you which shows this man has difficulties with alcohol and narcotics.

“He accepts full responsibility for his actions.

“When he new police were looking for him, he surrendered himself. He wants to make up for his behaviour.”

McLean has been ordered to complete 12 months of community payback order and 140 hours unpaid work within six months

He has also been told to pay £470 at £20 per week within 10 months.
