THE Troon Taxi Outing is gearing up for their annual fundraising day.

This year marks the 72nd year which is a special date in the calendar for Glasgow’s black taxi drivers, who drive children with special needs to Troon for the day.

With the main funding coming from Girvan’s in Troon, they also hold fun days leading up to the event.

Connie Girvan, owner of Girvan’s, said: “We have a couple fun days coming up soon which helps raise money with all the proceedings going to the taxi day.

“On May 28, we are holding a Curry’oky day from 4pm and that will be good fun.

“Last year we made almost £5,300 and we are hoping to get the same amount or even more this year.”

Over the years, it is estimated that almost 60,000 youngsters have benefited through the activities of the Glasgow Taxi Drivers who take part in the event.

The drivers of the cabs spend time decorating their cabs and dressing up in all types of costumes. It is hoped that over 100 black cabs will take part in the outing on Wednesday, June 21.
