SOUTH Ayrshire Labour announces its vision and commitments for the up and coming elections in May.

The election agent for the South Ayrshire Labour candidates, Philip Saxton, commented on the 2017 manifesto.

He believes that the manifesto is a really important document because it "sets out the range of promises that we make to those who vote for us and they can use this to hold us to account."

Labour in South Ayrshire are very keen to promote their assessment that inequality and poverty are not good for voters, holding communities back and it is detrimental to business and the local economy.

They want to promote a long term integrated chain of actions that benefits everyone, including quality work and quality wages, which would lead to quality services and sustainable local buying power.

Mr Saxton said: “Locally, Labour wanted to set out the main local strategic commitments to progress South Ayrshire because building community trust, combating systematic inequality, building sustainable homes, modernising and creating environmentally friendly services and sustaining the local economy are the main unifying social, economic and environmental drivers for our local plan.

He added: “We resisted the temptation to make a wish list of local promises because we wanted to be more ambitious and set an integrated direction for improvement and growth.

"We avoided making a series of unconnected promises and projects that, while popular, have no evidence base, little sustainable impact nor accumulative benefits that tackles deep rooted problems.

"Labour in South Ayrshire can be trusted to work for you, hear your voice and make South Ayrshire a better place."
