PEOPLE from across Troon are being urged to put their best foot forward and support a very good cause.

The plea comes from the Troon TEARS - Troon Emergency Assistance for Refugees - who are holding a collection day in Troon Old Parish Church on Saturday, April 8, from 11am until 3pm.

The last collection had phenomenal support from Troon and the surrounding areas.

This time they are looking for specifically walking shoes/boots, trainers, include socks and personal notes.

From chemical gas attacks to beatings and torture, refugees have faced unimaginable atrocities that we here in Britain couldn’t even imagine.

In the face of this, it’s easy to feel helpless, but there are practical things we can do to help.

Step in my Shoes, is an initiative to provide refugees arriving or travelling with wet shoes, or even no shoes; with boots and shoes to keep their feet warm and dry. It is organised by Edinburgh Cares to provide shoes essentially for refugees but also destitute human beings all over the world

Since January 2016 over 22,000 shoes have been donated via Step in my Shoes and have been sent where they were needed most, but the need still exists, perhaps even more than ever.

They are also asking for monetary donations and can accept donations on the day. This will go towards the shipping and storage costs of the shoes or you can go directly to www.edinburghcares.org to donate online.

Edinburgh Cares is a not-for-profit registered charity.

Find TEARS on facebook, imessage them. If you would like to volunteer on the day or involve your workplace, school or club, call Fiona on 01292 319722 for details.
