PUPILS and staff at Barassie Primary School waved in their Eco Schools Green Flag for a third time last month.

The school celebrated their prestigious award on February 24, with primary four and five pupils entertaining their parents, the school and invited guests, by delivering an informative, entertaining Eco Schools assembly, to showcase some of the incredible work that has been undertaken at Barassie Primary School.

The Eco Committee had devised their own song, entitled ‘Fly the Green Flag’, which they sang, to introduce their third Green Flag to the school community.

The pupils, dressed as devils and angels, acted out an entertaining play to illustrate the advantages and disadvantages of wind farms, with a litter sketch, highlighting the importance of keeping the area litter-free.

Eco Schools co-ordinator, Pauline Moriarty, the Eco Committee and all pupils and staff had worked diligently to improve their school environmentally, tackling all ten Eco Schools topics.

These included: litter, biodiversity, school grounds, waste minimisation, energy, water, transport, health and well-being, sustaining our world and food and the environment.

Linda Clarkson, head teacher at Barassie Primary School, praised those who took part in improving the environment around the school.

She said: "Everyone has worked so hard to improve the environment around the school and this award is a fantastic reward for everything we’ve done.

"We have worked to improve a number of areas, including reducing litter, improving the school grounds, producing less waste, using less energy and water, as well as transport and health and well-being.

"I would like to thank all staff, pupils, parents, grandparents and outside agencies and businesses who have supported the Eco Committee in their Eco Schools work.

"Staff and pupils are extremely proud of their school and were delighted by the positive comments that formed the Eco assessors’ report, acknowledging all the hard work."
