SCHOOLS across South Ayrshire celebrated World Book Day last week, with all its primary pupils dressing up as characters from their favourite books.

Pupils from Struthers Primary, above and left and Annbank, below and right, were just a few of the schools from the area that took part in the exciting day.

The popular outfits included characters from the Harry Potter series, such as boy himself, Hermione Granger and Bellatrix Lestrange.

Millie Johnston from Homston PS in Ayr also dressed up as Dorothy from Wizard of Oz, as sent to us on Facebook.

Other pupils opted for Disney’s stories, including Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Rapunzel from Tangled.

Many of the boys dressed up as their favourite Marvel characters - from Captain American to Iron man and the Hulk.

World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and most importantly, a celebration of reading.

The day is marked and celebrated worldwide, reaching over 100 countries.

This year was the 20th anniversary of the popular event.
The main aim is to encourage children to explore the fun of books and reading by giving them to opportunity to dress up as their favourite character.
