THE Troon lifeboat crew were called out after a fishing vessel had reportedly lost power.

Pagers worn by the lifeboat crew were activated by Belfast Coastguard on Wednesday, March 1 at about 11am when the fishing vessel with three passengers on board lost power two miles west of Troon harbour.

The volunteer crew attended at the station and the Trent class all-weather lifeboat RNLB Jim Moffat was launched to assist.

After a few minutes, the lifeboat was alongside the 17m fishing vessel and a tow line was passed by the lifeboat crew.

With the tow secured, the lifeboat returned to Troon harbour where the fishing vessel was secured alongside the Wee Hurrie Quay with the help of the Ayr Coastguard Rescue Team and harbour staff.

A spokesperson for the RNLI, said: “After the vessel had lost power, we were called out for assistance.

"She was then towed back to Troon harbour safe and sound and everyone on board were unharmed.”
