ECO warriors from Troon have started a major spring clean in Fullarton Woods as part of a general facelift.

Recently Friends of Fullarton started work on what will become a Wildflower Glade as part of the 'Irvine to Girvan Nectar Network' within the woods.

The McKellars of Ayrshire gave up many hours of their time voluntarily to take down two trees within the area and clear away some of the downed rhododendron bushes which were cleared a few weeks before.

The trees were growing very close together, and this will allow more light into the area meaning the new seeds and those which have lain dormant, (due to cover by rhododendrons and lack of light) will be able to grow.

SAC are also working on this project with the Friends group and will be providing the seeds for the area as well as works to prevent the rhododendron from growing back - rhododendrons in this specific area are non-native.

Fullarton volunteers will be re-visiting this area to prep it for the new seeds and will be asking for more help. For more details visit: www.facebook.com/IrvinetoGirvanNectarNetwork or www.facebook.com/mckellarsofayrshire.

Fullarton Woods organisers are organising a litter pick-up event had been organised for April 12 in conjunction with Clean Up Scotland.
