AN AYRSHIRE College lecturer’s reputation is on the rise after succeeding at an international photography competition.

Gary McIntyre, a photography lecturer at the Ayr Campus, submitted a series of photographs for the Photomanipulation category at the International Photographer of the Year 2016 awards.

His ‘Changing Seasons - Autumn/Winter’ project just missed out on a top three finish.

But was given an Honourable Mention alongside 19 other submissions.
This is an incredible achievement for Gary as the award ceremony attracted just under 4,000 entries.

Gary used one model throughout his submitted series, which is based on the Horae - Greek goddesses of the seasons and the natural portions of time.

He said this was to “allow the images to fly visually and to allow for a recognisable ‘grounding’ to the series.”

He said: “Using both my studio and landscape photography work I hoped to portray in each image the changing colours of the seasons.

"The vibrant autumnal colours in August through the cold hues of winter to the bleak dawn light of a new year.

“I submitted the series back in November just to find out how I would perform in an international competition.

"Obviously I’m over the moon to have been recognised at the International Photographer of the Year 2016 competition.”

This achievement continues a successful year for Gary.

He has also  previously had an image commended at the Take A View Landscape Photographer of the Year awards.

He added: “These are personal projects that I have submitted, and to be honest I’m never sure how they’ll do.

“Every year the students I work with at Ayrshire College are absolutely brilliant

"I would encourage them to enter similar national and international photography competitions.”
