TROON 1st Boys Brigade Pipe Band were finally recognised by the town for their amazing achievement becoming World Champions 2016 at the Pipe Band Championships at Glasgow Green in the summer.

Troon Community Council recently called for the boys to be recognised by South Ayrshire Council and Provost Helen Moonie.

At a coffee morning on Saturday, the boys were finally recognised in an official civic reception.

Councillors Bill McIntosh, Nan McFarlane and Peter Convery joined the Provost to pay tribute to the boys .

The achievement has been compared to winning a gold medal at the Olympic games as over 230 pipe bands from across the world competed over two days with 40,000 people in attendance.

It was reported that the Troon 1st BB Pipe Band made a last minute decision to enter “The Worlds” as many of the pipers and drummers were travelling to Jersey for the annual Boys Brigade Camp.

However, Pipe Major Christopher Bone knew the band has a good chance. He was said to be “the proudest man on the planet” as Troon’s 1st BB Pipe Band became World Champions.
