ONE Troon councillor has hit out at reckless drivers after several complaints about the parking on Dundonald Road in Troon.

Councillor Peter Convery has personally pledged that along with Councillor Nan McFarlane and Councillor Philip Saxton they will work together to stop the continuous parking on double yellow lines.

The complaints have been aimed at parking on double yellow lines on Dundonald Road which has been highlighted as a danger to children, the elderly and the disabled. However, the main complaint is drivers exiting junctions unable to see round the corner due to cars parked.

Councillor Peter Convery said it is ‘unacceptable’.

He said: “There seems to be a suggestion in Troon that you can park/abandon your car where ever you want.”

“It is not the Police’s duty to correct this, it is the duty of our traffic wardens.

“We need to bring more people in on traffic warden duty, however I have been made aware they are mostly in Ayr and Prestwick, however we will hope to correct this.

“All the complaints made about this is absolutely correct, we will definitely be looking to bring more traffic wardens in just to remind people this is unacceptable.”

The Troon councillor added that there was a consensus across all party lines to get this matter resolved.

He added: “There is a consensus with us about what can be done.

“There is difficulties in Troon as the town is situated on a peninsula in regards to a lack of spaces. However, that is no excuse when it comes to the reckless parking.”

A spokesperson for the Ayrshire Roads Alliance said: “Parking in a manner that causes an obstruction to traffic and pedestrians is completely unacceptable and there is no justification for parking on double yellow lines, especially with parking areas nearby.

“We take a serious view of these matters and will be examining these images carefully.”
