THE stunning pregnant daughter of Rangers legend Gordon Smith has revealed she is planning to eat her own placenta once she gives birth.

Libby Smith told fans on social media of her decision as her due date draws closer.

Libby, who is having the baby with ex-Celtic goalkeeper Logan Bailly, said: "The Placenta Encapsulation process is becoming more popular in the United States, but until now, it has been relatively unheard of in the UK.

"Eating your placenta offers new mothers numerous benefits: preventing postpartum depression, reducing pain and postpartum bleeding, increasing breast milk production and improving mother-infant bonding, to name a few.

"For those of you who haven’t heard about it, it is where your placenta is taken away after birth, it’s dehydrated and ground into a coarse powder and then placed into small capsules to be taken as a daily supplement full of incredible nutrients to help you recover faster and bounce back quicker after birth.

"I’ve even heard these capsules described as “Happy Pills” by Mums for the power they have in relieving new mothers of anxiety, fatigue and hormonal imbalances.

"I’ve also opted to have the beneficial nutrients made into a face cream, baby oil and body balm for an even better after glow affect.

"My chosen package also includes a raw placenta smoothie that I’ll consume as soon as 30 minutes after birth as it’s the only way of consuming the placenta that will allow the stem cells and growth factors to remain intact and absorbed by the blood as a quick and effective mode of healing and restoration after birth."

Several of her followers praised her decision.

One said: "Amazing! This will be so good for you. I wanted to do this when I was pregnant with my two but stupidly listened to other people saying it was odd, our bodies are just incredible."

Many celebrity mothers have praised eating placenta after the birth of their children including Kourtney Kardashian, Holly Madison and Alicia Silverstone.

Libby, who is due next month, also revealed she is having a boy at a recent baby shower.

Libby, who is originally from Newton Mearns, was thrown into the spotlight when she auditioned for the X Factor in 2009 with girl band Accent.
