NEW MP Corri Wilson has been rebelling against solemn Westminster rules by posting a banned photo.

Photography in the House of Commons chamber is strictly forbidden but Ms Wilson broke away from protocol by excitedly uploading a picture for her Facebook followers.

Her status from London said: "In the chamber this morning doing some training."

The image, which appears to be captured on her phone, shows a behind the scenes view of the solemn chamber and attracted 382 likes.

Ms Wilson told the Advertiser: "Just because things have remained a certain way for hundreds of years doesn't mean they have to stay that way. Yes pictures were taken but the chamber wasn't sitting.

"It is time to challenge these old boys network stereotypes."

Followers were grateful for the intimate shot with one supporter saying it made her feel involved in the SNP adventure.

The Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock MP also joined in the frowned-on practice of clapping in the chamber and again questioned why it was discouraged.

House of Commons Speaker John Bercow ordered the SNP politicians to refrain from doing so recently, after they had broke into a round of applause several times.

Ms Wilson said: "I don't understand the logic as I think clapping is much more acceptable that shouting and screaming at each other.

A House of Commons spokeswoman said she had seen Ms Wilson's Facebook shot but said it would be overlooked because she is relatively new to the Houses of Parliament She said: "Photography in the Chamber without permission is against the Houses internal rules but in the circumstances, where new members cannot be expected to be instantly familiar with all the rules and regulations, the Sergeant at Arms is prepared to exercise a little leniency until all the rules have been communicated."
