Tesco staff are facing further job losses as the company undergoes a whole new restructuring facelift.
The current hierarchy sees team leaders in place within every department and then a manager who is ultimately in control. The shake-up will see all team leaders who do not work at the checkout department face the possibility of losing their job and the amalgamation of certain departments. Tesco have told the Advertiser that there will be no reduction in the headcount of each store and where roles are removed, all staff will have the option to take an alternative position.
Tesco team leaders earn a slightly higher wage than general assistants and any staff member who chooses a different job within the store, will be demoted to a GA and lose out on money.
A representative of Tesco said: “We’re making some changes to management structures in stores that will help us deliver the best possible service to customers. The new structure will be simpler, with clearer lines of responsibility. Where there are changes to a colleague’s role we will be working with them to ensure they are fully supported.” Tesco have already closed the Troon Metro store which resulted in some of the staff being moved to other stores.
A Tesco spokesperson said: “I am pleased to say we have been able to offer colleagues affected by the closure alternative roles within Tesco. The vast majority of colleagues have taken this opportunity. We would like to thank our customers in Troon. We will continue to do our best to serve our customers through our other stores in Ayrshire, as well as through our Tesco.com service.”
