Community activist Roy - the town pays tribute

TRIBUTES have been paid to a 'gentleman' who devoted countless hours working on improving Troon and the surrounding area.
Roy Hayter sadly passed away after a short illness and members of Troon Community Council held a one minute silence for him at last week's meeting.
Roy, who was registered blind for over a decade, had been on the community council for several years and wasn't afraid to fight on behalf of local residents.
Troon Community Council chairman Dougie Graham praised him for all his hard work and enthusiasm for the community.
Dougie said: "He was always a very good worker and did a lot for the town. He wasn't frightened to stand up and put across his views. He was always on to the council about certain things and getting his point across to them. He was just a great lad."
His comments were backed by Provost Sloan who said: "I was saddened to learn of Roy's passing and I know his enthusiasm, wit and willingness to help others will be deeply missed.
"All my memories of Roy are all fond ones, whether it was sharing a story at regular South Ayrshire Access Panel meetings, helping him raise funds and awareness for blind people for whom he did so much, or taking part in many of the community activities in which he was involved, Roy was always a ray of sunshine and a joy to be around.
"Roy's death brings the loss of a much loved and valued member of the community and I extend my sincere condolences to his family at this sad time".
