Break-ins bring misery

FAMILIES have been left picking up the pieces after a spate of robberies and attempted break-ins in homes throughout the area.

Over the last couple of weeks police have been dealing with a number of cases of homes being raided and valuables stolen - leaving festive misery in its wake.

Personal goods the thieves have stolen include over £10,000 worth of jewellery, a couples engagement and wedding rings, a 32-inch TV and a quantity of wine.

Now police are appealing for anyone to come forward if they have any information on these robberies.

The first of the break-ins happned at a home in Seafield's Auchentrae Crescent between 4pm on Tuesday, December 16 and 11am on Sunday, December 21 with a TV/DVD combo stolen.

Then a homeowner arriving back on Sunday, December 21 noticed there had been an attempt to break into their Prestwick home in Alvord Road by trying to force open the rear door sometime between 8am on Wednesday, December 17 and 8am that Sunday.

Following this two Ayr homes targeted netted thieves £10,000 worth of jewellery and other belongings on Thursday, December 18. The first house, on Doonfoot's Portmark Avenue was targeted in broad-daylight between 8.30am and 5.30pm. The crooks stole a 32-inch TV, £2,000 worth of jewellery, bank cards and other items and due to the size of the stolen goods police believe a car was involved, and are urging anyone who saw someone acting suspiciously or any strange cars during the day to come forward.

The second home was at Rozelle's Knoll Park with a resident noticing the crime when she returned home at 5.30pm with jewellery worth over £7,000 taken.

The male suspects were seen nearby, both are desribed as being 20 to 25-years-old and between five foot nine and six foot. Both men were also wearing dark clothing and one had a dark beanie hat on. Two dark estate cars were also seen at this time.

In Troon someone attempted to break into a home in West Crescent by trying to force open the rear patio doors between 7am that Thursday and 11.30am the following morning while a digital camcorder was stolen from a flat in Wallacetown's James Street between 10.50pm that Thursday and 12.30pm the next afternoon.

Meanwhile a Girvan family are also counting the cost after their Glendoune Street home was raided and a quantity of wine and a mobile phone was stolen along with other household items between 1.35am and 8.50am on Saturday, December 20.
