Ayr Sheriff Court where Mitchell, 22, was sentenced

A VIOLENT thug who repeatedly kicked his cousin in the head as he lay on the ground has been jailed over over five months.

At Ayr Sheriff Court last Friday, Derek Mitchell, 22, was sentenced to 160 days by Sheriff Colin Miller who told him that attacks like this can lead to "serious injury or even death" and that jail is the only appropriate disposal in such cases.

Mitchell admitted assaulting Thomas Robertson, 24, in Wood Park, Prestwick, on February 5 by repeatedly punching and kicking him on the head to his injury,

Mitchell, of Fergusson Street, Ayr, was arrested and taken to Ayr Police Station.
