AN amateur radio enthusiast is hoping he won't be made to pull down an 11 metre mast and give up his hobby.

Neighbours have voiced deep concerns that the mast will be used as a climbing frame for local youngsters which could put kids in danger.

Troon man Gordon Burnett will appeal to South Ayrshire's planning board on Thursday to allow him to keep aerials on top his Craig Road home.

Mr Burnett, who is an avid radio buff and holds a short wave licence, already installed the aerials without permission and will discover if they can stay at the council's regulatory panel on Thursday.

The 11 metre mast has two antennas nine metres long which can be rotated. An additional five metre aerial has also been installed.
