Dad's Diamond Ring Theft from Ayr Jewellers
A DAD-OF-FOUR pretended to be interest in buying diamond engagement rings worth thousands and then bolted from two jewellers' shops with the sparklers.
Craig Rae, 39, first struck at Henderson's Jewellers in Quarry Street, Hamilton, where he snatched a diamond ring worth £3,700.
Twelve days later Rae, of Glasgow, moved to Ayr where at His Nibs Jewellers he used the same ploy to steal another diamond ring worth £4,000.
Depute fiscal Isobel Vincent told Ayr Sheriff Court that at noon on November 17 Rae went into His Nibs in Ayr and asked to see a £4,000 engagement ring which was in the window display. He grabbed it from the 61-year-old behind the counter and sprinted from the show.
