Former Boxer Grabbed Woman By Hair

AN Ayr five-a-side referee and former amateur boxer grabbed a woman by the hair in an all-night cafe and tried to puller her from her chair.

Gary Howarth, 39, of Kincaidston, appeared on deferred sentence at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

He had earlier admitted assaulting Jennifer McBlane on November 7 at Cafe Blue in Boswell Park.

Depute fiscal Maureen Mullan said that Howarth attacked the woman at 2am after an argument with one of her friends.

Solicitor, Peter Lockhart, said referring to a social enquiry report on Howarth: "There are positive aspects. He is a hard-working family man who is involved in other activities within the community.

"However when he does drink, he does drink too much and gets himself into situations like this."
