A SEX fiend who preyed on a 10-year-old girl for over a year was only caught after his victim told her friend about it through her Nintendo DS.

Twisted Arthur McFarlane, from Ayr, abused the young girl - who cannot be named for legal reasons - at her home and at a caravan park between January 2007 and July last year.

The girl and her friend were playing with the games consoles at the caravan in July last year when she sent a message saying that the 42-year-old had been touching her.

The school pupil told her mum about the abuse soon after this but the offences were only reported to the police when the girl told her teacher five months later.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday, McFarlane, of New Bridge Street in Ayr, admitted using lewd, indecent and libidinous behaviour towards the girl.
