FOUR Girvan lads were specially picked to take part in the recent Queen"s Trooping the Colour.

Carrick born Pipe Major Brian Heriot, 39, Colour Sergeant Derek McClung 38, Lance Corporal Robert McCutcheon 24 and Sergeant Ross McCrindle 30, were all leading from the front at this year"s Queen"s Birthday Parade in London.

Brian, Ross and Robert are all members of the Pipes and Drums and are former Girvan Academy pupils.

Speaking to us Brian said: 'It is thought that this is the first time that the three command appointments in the Pipes and Drums have been help by men from the same town, and testament to the tuition that we all received from local Ayrshire sources when first taking up their instruments.'

Brian has been Pipe Major for over one year and Ross, who was recently crowned Army Champion Piper and has been in his role for a year, have both been selected for promotion.
