THE Tuesday Group in Girvan are delighted to have been awarded more than £1,200 from the Big Lottery Fund.

Some £1,245 has been donated to the group which will allow them to continue to provide a range of social activities for older people who have a hearing impairment in Girvan.

The funding will help The Tuesday Group continue the work they do with their members to help reduce the isolation and loneliness that they feel.

Their members are aged between 69 and 96, many live alone and have a hearing impairment. This can be very isolating as members can become quite withdrawn from social settings because they find it impossible to contribute.

Members currently meet once a month where there is often a speaker, a cup of tea/coffee, a raffle, a chat and perhaps a quiz, where they are given the opportunity to socialise with other people.

The funding will help The Tuesday Group to continue these monthly meetings in Girvan, as well as organise a Christmas party and two outings within the year to allow members to safely visit places of interest by hiring a mini bus, as they are often unable to travel themselves.
For the two outings they wish to visit a garden centre and a hotel further up the coast.

A National Lottery Awards for All spokesperson said: “This is National Lottery money in action, reaching into communities across Scotland making a real difference to the people who live there.

"The 154 groups receiving funding today showcases the range of projects that can be funded through this programme and the difference that the smallest amounts of money can make.”
