PLANNING permission to reinstate a wall inside The Sweetie Shop, Girvan, has been granted.

The application, submitted by Cllr Alec Clark, was granted at a planning meeting at South Ayrshire Council last week.

Chairman Brian Connelly said: “It is a member of the council who has made this application. He wants to create to retail units instead of one.”

Michael McClelland, South Ayrshire Council planning officer, said: “It is currently one retail unit but there is a plan to reinstate the wall.

“It had been removed and meets the local development plan criteria.

“It raised no planning issues.”

Cllr Peter Convery said: “I am delighted to see this change. I have no problem with it.”

Cllr Ian Cavana asked: “What is it going to be?”

Mr McClelland replied: “It is going to be a shop. I am not sure what kind of shop.”

After the meeting Cllr Alec Clark said: “We opened The Sweetie Shop in 1998 and transformed it from an amusement centre.

“We took the wall down and 20 years later we are putting it back up.

“The Sweetie Shop will be there for many more years to come.”
