A DOG owner has expressed her anger after her Labrador was electrocuted by an exposed wire on Maybole’s Main Street.

Yvonne Morrison (58) explained how her seven-year-old pup, Angel, was out on a walk with her fiancé, Ralph Hadcroft (57), when she stood on the live wire and “collapsed” in the morning of Saturday, February 3, but claims that no one is “taking responsibility”.

She said: “My fiancé took Angel and my two other dogs [Ruby and Miley] on a walk – they were on the lead just walking past and Angel must have just stood on the cable. It was a 200 to 240-volt cable and it threw her – she couldn’t get up.

“She then tried to up and fell back down a couple of times before [Ralph] could actually get her up. He went straight into Cameron’s [hardware] shop and the woman in there told him she had actually reported [the wire] and nothing has been done about it.

“He was bringing Angel home, but she kept trying to run away, so he had to lift her up – she was shaking. She has been so sheepish, and we’ve been struggling to get her out on the lead. If you go and try to take her out, she doesn’t want to go out.

“The whole thing is that the [cable] shouldn’t have been sitting like that.

“I was on the phone all day yesterday (Monday, February 5) from 9am to 5pm and nobody is taking responsibility – not one.

“It could have easily killed my dog – the whole thing is just despicable.

“No one is getting away with this, it just angers me.”

A spokesman from Scottish Power told the Ayr Advertiser that even though they do not own the street pillar itself, they did however, receive a call on Saturday, February 3 about the incident and immediately sent out an engineer, isolated the cable and made it safe.

Scotland Transerv were also contacted for a comment and a spokesman explained: “Scotland Transerv attended on Saturday, February 3 and our engineer was stood down as there was a Scottish Power engineer in attendance.

“The cable shown in the photographs are black, which belong to Scottish Power. As we have been told by our Electrical Delivery Manager, our cables are purple.”

As we went to press, Angel could have muscle damage but has no damage to her heart.
