RESIDENTS of Girvan were curious to see a crane at Girvan Harbour recently.
One local sent the Carrick Herald this picture on Friday, February 2 and asked the team to find out what was going on.
The crane was on site for one day to refurbish a pontoon where the Shannon class all weather lifeboat will be based.
A spokesperson for the The Ayrshire Roads Alliance said: “We can confirm that the crane was at Girvan Harbour for a day to enable the installation of the RNLI pontoon refurbishment.
“The red barge was used to position the pontoon at the end of the timber jetty.
“Now that the pontoon works are complete, the new Shannon class all weather lifeboat will be based at Girvan Harbour.”
The £2.1 million Shannon class all-weather lifeboat, replaced Girvan’s Mersey class lifeboat on Sunday, December 10.
