AN MSP was given a behind-the-scenes tour around the Scottish SPCA centre in Ayr.

The charity introduced Emma Harper MSP to a number of animals within their care, including Freya – a whippet who is around 12-years-old and it currently undergoing veterinary treatment.

Scottish SPCA Chief Executive, Kirsteen Campbell, said: “We were delighted to welcome MSP Emma Harper to our centre here in Ayr.

“It’s great to be able to showcase the fabulous work done by the team here at the centre and talk more widely about the Society’s aims from increasing the maximum prison sentence for animal cruelty to tackling the illegal puppy trade.

“Our centre here in Ayr has real community support and it’s great to be able to meet with community representatives like Emma Harper.”

Emma Harper MSP, added: “It was a pleasure to be invited along to my local Scottish SPCA rehoming centre. The team are doing great work across Ayrshire to protect animals and find new homes for animals who have suffered from neglect and harm.

“I loved meeting Freya the whippet who is an older lady at around 12 years old; she is currently undergoing veterinary treatment and has been with Scottish SPCA in Ayr for a few weeks. I hope she finds a new home soon.

“The Scottish SPCA has a lot of great and exciting projects, and it is great to be able to support the organisation. I would also like to take the opportunity to encourage people to adopt and not shop.”
