A BUDDING entrepreneur from Ayr has won an award from the Prince’s Trust.

Jenny Hughes of Little Lullas came up with the idea for her babies clothing company, after struggling to find traditional pink and blue baby clothes for her own family.

Starting off with a stall at the Rivergate Shopping Centre over the Christmas period, Jenny approached The Prince’s Trust in April 2016, with the idea to open her own shop specialising in traditional, yet affordable clothes for babies up to two years.

With support from The Trust, and with the help of her family, the shop on Old Bridge Street, Ayr became a reality. Jenny has been able to balance being a mum, and running a business successfully, and now hires two employees to help with the workload.

Speaking at the event, after being presented with her award by South Ayrshire Provost, Helen Moonie, Jenny said: “It feels great to have won, I would never have imagined anything like this. The recognition is great for business.”

The South Ayrshire Provost, commented: “It was an honour to attend The Prince’s Trust Enterprise Awards and celebrate the talents of young entrepreneurs.

“As we look to secure a growth deal for Ayrshire, it’s encouraging to know there are many fledgling businesses out there who are actively expanding. Setting up a business is never easy but these young adults are an inspiration as they continue to thrive despite the challenges.”

Seven other young Ayrshire entrepreneurs received recognition for their hard work and success at The Prince’s Trust Ayrshire Enterprise Awards 2017 held on Monday, October 9 at Saltcoats Town Hall.

Sponsored by local businesses, the packed out annual event brings together young local entrepreneurs, to showcase Ayrshire business talent.

With over 150 people attending the event from across Ayrshire, the young entrepreneurs were joined by local businesses, councillors, schools, local organisations, and Prince’s Trust volunteers and supporters.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Prince’s Trust Mentor and Ayrshire Chairman, Walter Smith, added: “Last year Prince’s Trust Scotland helped 56 young entrepreneurs from across Ayrshire to kick start their businesses.

“These eight award winners demonstrate the potential of Ayrshire’s young people to achieve great things, when given the right support.

"These young entrepreneurs have exemplified determination, the will to succeed, and the ability to turn a good idea into a viable business.”
