A CONTROVERSIAL planning application, for a 90 bed care home to be built on Dunure Road, has been submitted to South Ayrshire Council.

An Inverness company is looking to develop a two storey building, near the road, with associated access, car parking, service area and landscaping.

But this has seen four objections submitted to the council. Alloway and Doonfoot community council are backing local residents who say ‘they are not against a care home, just not in the wrong place’.

The issue was discussed at a public meeting recently which was well attended by those who oppose the development.

One resident said: “We are living right on this development, which is proposed to be on the main road. We have never objected to any planning proposal. But this seems to have gone against the plans which have been submitted previously.

“They are doing what they want. They were originally planning a single story building, not on the main road.

“Now they plan to build on the main road. Consider the problems there are already issues regarding parking on Dunure Road.

"They do not show our house on the planning application. It will spoil the lovely green belt and the impact of the traffic will be horrendous.

“Proposals state that the building will be two stories high but it is actually almost three stories. The impact on the scenic route into Ayr will be detrimental. The original plans in 2009 said it should keep the views of Greenan Castle and Ayr Bay. This is going against that.”

Peter Hall commented: “There has been no consultation with the public on the application. We thought it was going to be a few houses with parking.”

Chairwoman Marilyn Dalgleish, said: “We will get an objection submitted to South Ayrshire Council as soon as possible. There is a big turnout at this meeting tonight to support the objection.”

Another concerned resident said: “The building is enormous. It is a monstrosity and it is very ugly. This will spoil the view on the way into Ayr.

“So much has gone wrong in Ayr. This has to stop.”
